Are you kidding me?

Are you kidding me?

This is what I say when I dig in on the pages of ninety percent of the client sites I visit. Spelling mistakes. Punctuation errors. Basic problems with syntax that your fifth grade English teacher would have a conniption over.

Look, I understand why these so often happen. For most of us, fixing these types of errors seem somehow ‘beneath us’–especially in the age of auto-correction and Texting and Twitter where it’s all good so long as the other person understands what you meant to say.

But most of us are kinda/sorta hypocrites in this regard. When we go to a web site, we expect things to be correct. Correct spelling. Correct punctuation. Correct sentences.

You simply cannot tolerate sloppy mistakes on your site. I’m sorry to sound preachy on this, but it really should go without saying. Whether they realize it or not, most readers are very aware of the quality of the copy they are reading and mistakes like these make a real subconscious impression.

So if you don’t trust yourself to edit yourself? Make sure you get someone in your organization to give your copy a good going over. You will thank me.
